About Hardwicke

Hardwicke is a modern set of Barristers’ chambers, operating through four divisions: Commercial, Construction, Insurance and Property Law. There are about 75 barristers supported by about 25 members of staff. Hardwicke’s offices are located between Chancery Lane and Lincoln’s Inn Fields in Central London.

The departments and the position on offer The IT department consists of the IT Manager and an outsourced support company to provide additional support in some systems. The department’s job is to provide assistance to staff and members with IT issues, ensure the IT infrastructure services are working, and to plan and implement IT projects to improve the facilities offered.

The Marketing department consists of the Marketing Manager and a Marketing Executive who plan and implement Chambers’ marketing strategy. There is a strong focus on client events, PR, client relationship management and online digital marketing, such as managing Hardwicke’s website, newsletters and social media presence. IT and Marketing often work together on matters related to branding and online communications; they are actually planning a major Intranet project.

The position offered is an IT and Marketing Assistant, a full time position which will provide equal support to both departments, and the prospective candidate should have an interest in both fields. IT experience to be gained will come from working with and finding resolutions for a variety of desktop and server support matters, together with working with infrastructure and suppliers. In addition to this, further experience will come from exposure to the full marketing mix, including website and database management.

General experience working in busy teams in a n often demanding professional services environment. Other technical and soft skills which can be developed are general professional environment communication skills. IT fault investigation, and diagnosis skills. Exposure to a wide range of industrystandard and vertical market IT technologies. Website management. People and time management. Event planning and supplier management. The position is a full time position and will pay a salary equivalent to the current London Living Wage. The placement is expected to run from 1st July 2016 to 30th June 2017.

Requirements

  • Completed 2 years of an undergraduate computer related degree, targeted to achieve a 2.1 or higher classification. (For example, Computer Science).
  • General IT skills, (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with the hardware and software of Windows PCs and Macs.
  • General interest in the technical side of IT and technology, with the ability to demonstrate some knowledge of current technological developments.
  • General interest in marketing, both using traditional methods and modern digital marketing.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues in laymen’s terms.
  • Ability to take on a task, (for example, diagnostic, research, etc), and work it without the need for constant assistance.
  • Interest and ability to use social media.
  • Ability to help out with events that take place out of normal working hours.

Desirable

  • Any IT support experience is not a requirement, but may be an advantage.
  • Familiarity/experience with graphics packages (eg Photoshop).
  • Experience with social media analytics tools.
  • Experience with event management and organisation.
  • Familiarity with contact database management.
  • Familiarity with Intranet/Website Central Management Systems.
