Build your career on a platform of opportunities

As a firm, we are dynamic, self-reflective and agile. Internationalism is part of the fabric of our organisation. What will this mean to you? More access to intellectually demanding, multi-jurisdictional work. Greater international mobility and secondment opportunities. And the opportunity to collaborate on a daily basis with creative, open-minded and approachable experts around the world.

Our people

There’s an energy and vibrancy you can feel here at Ashurst – and that’s thanks in large to the people who make up our firm. You’ll find a variety of talents, skill sets and backgrounds here, because we specifically seek them out. We trust all of our people and we respect what each of them can contribute as an individual. This we find, brings out the best in all of us: the best work, the best ideas and the best atmosphere. Having a diverse range of people opens up a world of ideas and insights for our business and our clients. We actively foster this diversity in a number of ways.

Firstly, we communicate openly through regular newsletters, reports, and articles – reporting on where we are not succeeding as well as where we are.

Secondly, we work hard to actively include everyone, through a considered use of employee support groups. These groups put on a huge variety of events to educate, inform and entertain, and, crucially, they act as a forum for ideas, issues and priorities that are conveyed to all the partners. Thirdly, through clear action plans, we make sure our focus is not just on recruiting employees from different backgrounds, faiths and cultures, but on supporting them fairly, understanding their perspectives and making them feel genuinely welcome.

Training at Ashurst

A thorough induction kicks off your training contract, introducing you to all the resources you'll need to support your work and training. In collaboration with you, we plan four seats of six months, and review that plan at regular intervals. Each seat starts with a handover and training, complete with technical expertise, so you know exactly what to expect. At least one seat will be in either our banking or securities and derivatives practice areas, and most trainees choose to do at least one other transactional seat. There's a wealth of options to consider and we will also encourage you to undertake a secondment to one of our growing offices or to a valued client.

You’ll be supervised by a partner or associate who’ll work closely with you and provide guidance, reviewing your progress as you go along and helping you to pinpoint your successes and develop in areas that need work. Equally, there’s a great deal to be learned from the others you work with in the practice area. And at every step, we’ll make sure you feel involved not just in the effort behind our successes but the exhilaration that follows them too.
