The ICLR is a not for profit charity established in 1865 and we are responsible for providing the official and authoritative coverage of law-changing cases decided in England and Wales. Our law reporters, who are barristers and solicitors, are deployed in the High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court to provide the legal community with daily coverage of new judgments of interest.

As a charitable organisation made up of lawyers, we work hard to support legal learning. In 2016, we held the very first annual ICLR Pupillage Award competition. The purpose of the ICLR Pupillage Award is to provide direct financial assistance to an aspiring barrister during the course of their pupillage in chambers. Our aim is to support those intent of pursing a career at the Bar who are most in need of financial assistance to help them make their pupillage a success.

If you are taking up pupillage in the Autumn 2017 and will be paid a total for the year of no more than £18,000 (including guaranteed earnings), you could receive our top-up award of a further £12,000. We will be making the award to one pupil every year.

We will be making the award based on a combination of financial need and merit. The award is made irrespective of the core practice areas of the chambers hosting the pupillage.

Open for applications 1 March 2017. Closing date 31 March 2017.
