Commercial Awareness Question Time is heading to Birmingham.

Where next for future commercial lawyers in the dawning new era of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and big data?

On the evening of Wednesday 12 July Legal Cheek is joining forces with Pinsent Masons to discuss this and other questions in an event designed to helped boost students’ awareness of developments in the legal sector, ahead of the firm’s training contract application deadline at the end of July.

‘Lawyers and the fourth industrial revolution’ takes place from 6pm at Pinsent Masons’ new Birmingham premises at 55 Colmore Row.

The speakers are Pinsent Masons' Birmingham office head Greg Lowson, the firm’s director of knowledge and innovation David Halliwell, banking & finance senior associate Jen Marshall, senior legal knowledge engineer Paven Sharma, and junior solicitor Alexandra Simon.

The quartet will draw upon their different experiences across fee-earning and non-fee earning roles to sketch out how the profession will develop over the next decade – and identify what sort of skills those entering it should seek to hone. With Pinsent Masons the only UK law firm to have built its own AI tool, the panel are uniquely well placed to advise future lawyers on the opportunities being created by technology.

Also on the agenda will be diversity – which Pinsents is strongly committed to as it continues to build a workforce with the breadth of skills to confront the challenges that lie ahead – and the exciting growth of Birmingham as a legal centre. An audience of 50 students will ask the questions in a Question Time-style debate.

After the Q&A, which runs from 6-7pm, there will be drinks and networking until 8:30pm with the speakers, a selection of Pinsents’ trainees and the firm’s graduate recruitment team.

Apply to attend below. You’ll be asked to submit a CV and two questions for the panel. The CVs of those offered places will be shared with Pinsent Masons’ graduate recruitment team.
