DWF is recruiting for a number of advocate roles in several locations

These roles are for advocates (post BPTC) who are looking to gain serious courtroom and drafting experience while being supervised by counsel. DWF advocates are in court/before tribunals most days, running a busy civil/commercial practice (Catastrophic Injury, Occupational Health, Employment, Professional Indemnity, Inquests, Costs, Commercial litigation and International arbitration).

Locations

Manchester (x2), London, Liverpool*
*The Liverpool role is for a qualified advocate (Solicitor Advocate/Barrister only)

You will conduct interlocutory hearings, applications, costs, case management hearings and final hearings for the insurance and commercial divisions of the firm. You will rely on the technical supervision from a Team Leader at all times. You will commence your in-house advocacy training under the guidance and supervision of a Team Leader. The training will consist of a period of shadowing the Senior Advocate(s), a period of conducting hearings under heavy supervision and then a period of conducting straightforward hearings with minimal supervision.

Main Duties

  • Conducting interlocutory hearings, applications, costs, case management hearings and final hearings for the insurance and commercial divisions of the firm.
  • Liaising with fee earners before and after hearings.
  • Representing insurers/clients at court.
  • Drafting legal documents on instruction from fee earners, under the supervision of a Senior Advocate.

Candidate Profile

You will preferably have previous advocacy experience in a civil/commercial context, although this is not essential as extensive training can be provided. Any successful candidate will be expected to have commercial awareness, confidence and the ability to seek out, secure and retain new instructions from within the firm and beyond. All candidates are expected to have achieved at least a 2.1 at undergraduate level and a very competent for the BVC/BPTC. If not already qualified, the candidate will be expected to engage with a route to qualification with the firm once probation has passed.
