The role:

Knowledge, Learning and Development (Client Innovation and Legal Technology)

Ideally Norwich or Birmingham office but will consider Manchester, Leeds, Cambridge or London, full-time, permanent

Mills & Reeve are looking for an e-discovery specialist to work within the Knowledge, Learning and Development Team. The Advisor will form part of the client innovation and legal technology initiative. This is a new role.

The Advisor will come from a technology, eDiscovery, legal or law tech background and will be responsible for end-to-end eDiscovery solution management for the Firm (covering general commercial litigation, data subject access requests, Freedom of Information Act requests and employment tribunals).

Responsibilities will include:

  • Advising on forensic data collection or deployment of specialists to collect from multiple custodians, operating systems and data sources, including critical thinking around “in house data collection” as a product.
  • Processing and refining of collected data via eDiscovery platforms
    and applied searches.
  • Training internal review team on eDiscovery platforms (all aspects
    including tagging tools and redaction).
  • Management of cost on data platforms internally.
  • Risk management.
  • Direct contact with fee earners and clients on the entire data
    collection, reviewing, production and delivery process through to
    retention at the end of a matter.
  • Training and workflow management.
  • Change Management initiatives around technology deployment across the Firm.
  • Obtaining quotes from vendors and recommending products to fee
    earner/client and seeing through to execution.
  • Day to day management of e-Discovery tasks and requests.
  • Ability to supervise team/support fee earners with technical questions regarding the e-Discovery platforms.
  • Handling and manipulating load files for E-Discovery.
  • Assess effectiveness of current offerings used and horizon scan the market for alternatives.
  • Project management of E-Discovery platforms.
  • There is also an opportunity for the Advisor to progress to other legal tech used by the Firm and client innovation covering engagements and alternative legal service products.

The person

Essential

  • 2:1 law or computer science degree (a 2:2 will be considered if it is
    in addition to good A Levels and high quality experience)
  • High quality work based experience as an e-Discovery expert will be
    considered in lieu of the above
  • Excellent IT Literacy, including expertise with Relativity
  • Track record of managing and completing projects to within agreed timescales and budget whilst under pressure
  • Accountable, self-motivated and driven individual
  • Excellent written English and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • Enthusiastic and proactive attitude to work
  • Flexible in approach
  • A confident personality and good sense of humour
  • Willingness to work in a growing, dedicated team
  • Positive team player willing to tackle any task
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to deploy complicated terminology and concepts in an
    accessible way

Desirable

  • Opentext Axcelerate, Nuix Discover (previously Ringtail), Consilio
    and Sightline experience and knowledge.
  • Law degree
  • LPC
  • Knowledge of electronic review platforms
