Apply for corporate and commercial legal work experience in Sussex

We offer: Every year we offer three two-week summer work experience placements at The Jonathan Lea Network. We also offer one week work experience placements every Christmas and Easter (on such mutually convenient dates that are agreed with a candidate).

Who can apply: This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is either studying or has recently completed a law degree, the GDL conversion course or the LPC to gain practical experience at a commercial law firm during the summer of 2020, from

• Monday 22nd June to Friday 3rd July;
• Monday 13th July to Friday 24th July; and
• Monday 3rd August to Friday 14th August.

LPC sponsorship and salary: We are particularly keen to receive applications from those who might want to study the LPC part time. In such cases we are interested in offering a job with us to fit around academic studies, as well as sponsorship for the LPC fees. There is also a chance that those who do work experience may be offered a paralegal (current starting salary is £20k) or training contract (current first year starting salary is £27k) role with us. We currently employ three trainee solicitors and we have a previous work experience student joining us as a paralegal in October 2020.

Practice areas

The experience you can expect to gain working with us will be varied and should include some of the following (being our main areas of specialism):

• Corporate finance, particularly SEIS/EIS angel and VC investment rounds
• Mergers and acquisitions in respect of owner managed private companies (including MBOs)
• Commercial contracts and terms and conditions, particularly for tech startups and IT businesses generally, including those focused on intellectual property
• Commercial property (leasehold and freehold) and some residential;
• EMI and unapproved share option schemes and other equity arrangements
• Complex private company corporate restructuring
• Shareholder disputes and buy outs
